Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)

The standard within football (and most sports I guess) is that coaches and analysts have KPI’s that are used to code matches.
These KPI’s are often quite generic, eg, Shots on Target, Pass Completion, Tackles etc., and while there is nothing wrong with these, its important not to get carried away by these if they are just statistical. We all probably know the dangers of over emphasising someone that has made a high number of complete passes as these might just be sideways and backwards and don’t progress the play at all, and don’t fit into what your team are trying to do. Also in an attacking sense its more important to ask why your striker only managed 1 shot on target, rather than just thinking they have performed poorly because of this number.

My question for coaches and analysts, and any other role that deals with the use of KPI’s, is; Do you have Team KPI’s that are separate to Inidicual KPI’s, and most importantly do you rank/rate these KPI’s?

If you do I’d really like to hear about how you rate them as this is something that I think could be used well within analysis to show a different representation for match reports, and have a basic look at more “momentum” based representation.
